Thus is how ye shall see all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream,
a flash of lightning in a summer cloud, a flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.
-- The Diamond Sutra

I have long been wanting to make a concordance of quotes, from Buddhism and elsewhere, which would show the universality of these concepts which transcend any religion, school, or system of thought. These concepts are part, not just of our human heart, but of the entire interdependence of existence.

I have always collected quotes and ideas -- the earliest i remember doing this is cutting out inspirational quotes from Reader's Digest and pasting them on my bedroom walls as a child. The idea of this project blossomed sometime in the 20-teens as i entered into a more serious study of Buddhism, and saw similarities among the various schools i was reading, and of course saved some of those words. Serious formal collection for the purpose began in February 2017.

the plan

The quotes are in text file format, eventually to be put in a database, tagged, and referenced. Then to build the online Web app with the searchable concordance of concepts.
The site will of necessity be in English, and will use a Google translation plugin to provide approximate translations in multiple languages.

I am also dreaming to have a small photo/image of each person, with link to a short bio on metaxu.to, which would have links to more information about them.
Ideally each quote will be referenced to verse, page, etc., and have a link to an authoritative source.
The "ideas" would be Buddhist and Western concepts, and also common English phrases such as 'the path of', 'let go', etc.

the quotes

Here are the main collections that i will be building from. I periodically update the files, since i add to them almost every day.

Row row row your boat / gently down the stream
Merrily merrily merrily merrily / life is but a dream.
-- American folk song

support

If you would like to support this project with some bits of money, it would be such a help.

Thank you.
